Debut is seeking a Senior Art Director to support the launch of our first consumer brand in market, leading creative ideation, strategy, and execution. Working closely with the VP, Consumer Brands, this is a unique opportunity to build the in-house creative design team and lead the foundational brand narrative and creative communication to our brand’s first core consumers. 

 

We aim to be a leader in the sustainable brands landscape, leveraging breakthrough content to drive engagement and high emotional attachment with our brand audience. We are seeking a creative leader to help shape the creative strategy and lead the team in overseeing the creative vision and execution of projects. Inspired and deeply connected to our consumers, and with an ethos of collaboration and positivity, you source and direct designers, writers, art directors, film makers and more to bring your vision to life. And you will work in tandem with producers and project managers to keep the project on track and the vision intact. Your creative pushes our brand and business forward. 

 

The role reports to the VP, Consumer Brands. We have a strong preference for candidates able to work in San Diego, CA with a competitive relocation package available. For the strongest candidates, would consider Remote, with regular travel required to San Diego.

Responsibilities 

  • Oversee strategy, planning and implementation of brand launch creative and content strategy against marketing communications plan, with a digital-first mindset creating a cohesive brand narrative and consumer introductory experience that crosses touchpoints 
  • Leverage consumer research, market studies and input from cross-functional team members (e.g., innovation, brand, ecommerce) to create compelling, resonant creative 
  • Conceptualize campaigns and creative needs; lead brainstorming/creative sessions to generate new ideas/creative direction for new and existing concepts across a multitude of tactics (e.g., digital, print, video) and a multitude of channels (web, social, in-store/retail, OOH/experiential) 
  • Concept designs, photo & video shoots, and campaigns, both at a high-level as well as understanding the various steps required to execute from concept to delivery 
  • Review rounds of production and edits, provide constructive, creative feedback to graphic design & content studio teams, to get the work to the desired finished product
  • Manage project timelines for on-time asset delivery against budget
  • Continue to set and maintain clear brand guidelines for visual communication and ensure we meet these standards consistently
  • Build and manage relationships with internal cross-functional partners and external partners/vendors
  • Support our brand innovation team in creative development of new brand identities, as needed
  • Serve as advisor and subject matter expert for Debut on digital-first consumer brand creative best practices, trends and advancements
  • Cultivate a diverse and inclusive culture where all can thrive 

 

Preferred Experience and Capabilities 

  • 7+ years experience in creative development for consumer brand marketing, with personal care industry experience and start-up experience a must 
  • Bachelor's degree required in relevant field
  • Exceptional creative abilities with a history of developing and delivering a wide variety of truly innovative, unique programs and brand initiatives that consistently engage the consumer, and are tailored to the brand
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social, digital and experiential marketing, with a strong understanding of marketing communications and demonstration of a deep understanding of target consumer
  • Strong background in directing and styling photo shoots for digital marketing/advertising with cross-media experience e.g., 2D and 3D design, static and motion content development
  • Experience directing and managing the activities of external service providers / vendor companies
  • A track record of identifying new technological, people, and materials resources and using them in creative ways to extend and promote brand identity
  • Ability to nurture and champion new ideas, and contribute to creative problem-solving, with strong storytelling, communication and presentation abilities
  • Empathy and openness to learning new techniques and from new perspectives
  • Ability to work independently, comfort with navigating ambiguity, and energized by working in a fast-paced environment
  • You are willing to travel as needed (anticipated 25%)

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $160,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
