Fermentation Technician

The Fermentation Technician will be a critical contributor to our research and production teams by performing various lab support duties. The role requires multiple hands-on tasks, including cleaning and autoclaving glassware and small equipment.

Responsibilities

• Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) in order to generate typical lab reagents, such as buffers, cell growth media, agarose gels
• Assist with glassware cleaning and sterilization
• Assist other team members with setup and monitoring equipment
• Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment
• Stocking and maintenance of inventory and supplies
• Ability to work off hours and weekends as needed

Qualifications

• Ability to understand and follow detailed work instructions precisely
• Ability to perform complex procedures reproducibly
• Excellent organizational, time management, and record keeping skills
• 1-4 years of experience in a research lab or manufacturing environment
• College-level coursework in general biology, microbiology, and chemistry is preferred
• Familiar with standard laboratory support techniques (e.g., pH meter, pipetting, aseptic technique, autoclaving) is preferred
• Able to stand for long periods of time (50% of workday), squat, bend, waist twist, kneel, climb stairs, reach up to shoulder height, and routinely lift/carry/push/pull up to 30 lbs

• Employment is subject to a criminal background check.
• Must be willing to work with biohazardous agents (up to BSL2).
• Work requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard and office equipment. Laboratory operations require dexterity and care to perform studies as required.
• The R&D laboratory will result in exposure to hot and cold temperatures, noise, fumes, limited dust, and oily coolants.
• Requires walking, climbing stairs, bending and occasional lifting of material up to fifty (50) pounds.
• The performance of this position will present exposure to an industrial environment and requires support and compliance with the published Company PPE policy including but not limited to the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields, appropriate attire, safety shoes, hard hat, hearing protection, etc.
